Your gifts enable current and aspiring nurses in our local communities to get the education, training and support they need to deliver compassionate care and pursue clinical excellence. Meet Lanie Thompson, RN, a recent graduate of the donor-funded Virginia Henderson Scholars Program and Centra College, to learn about her journey and how you helped her along the way.

Dear Donors,

When I was younger, I had a good experience with some nurses when I was in the hospital. That experience led me to want to care for others and help them through a difficult time.

I found out about the Virginia Henderson Scholars Program through school and thought it sounded like a great opportunity. I am always looking for opportunities to learn and gain more experience.

During the start of the program, I served in the Emergency Department at Lynchburg General. I had a great experience and learned a lot about emergency medicine. After a few months, I transitioned to the Emergency Department Observation Unit.

I have been on this unit for a little over a year now. I enjoy building relationships with my patients and being able to have a positive impact on their lives. The program helped increase my confidence and strengthen my abilities as a nurse.

I would like to thank those who funded this program for the amazing experience. It gave me the opportunity to find my place in the nursing field and strengthen my nursing skills.

I’m so grateful. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Lanie Thompson, RN
