Donor support helped to provide the Curve Navigation System™ by Brainlab, an innovative information-guided surgery platform that transforms how brain and spine procedures are performed, enhances precision and safety, and potentially speeds recovery times.
Neurosurgery at Centra is in 3D.
Thanks to a generous donation through the Centra Foundation from philanthropists Cinda and *George Hurt, neurosurgeons are utilizing Curve™ by Brainlab, a state-of-the-art command and control center for information-guided surgery.
This powerful technology enables doctors to perform highly intricate procedures with greater precision and minimal invasiveness, potentially speeding recovery times and allowing patients to resume their daily activities sooner.
The equipment can support complex cranial surgeries, cranial biopsies, delicate spinal operations, mid-facial reconstructions and more, ensuring that patients can receive the most effective and minimally invasive care possible without the hassle of traveling out of Centra’s service area.
With high-resolution imaging and advanced navigation abilities, the advanced technology:
• Enhances surgical accuracy and patient safety.
• Offers unparalleled visualization and tracking capabilities.
• Enables surgeons to share detailed surgical plans and real-time images with other members of the care team, both inside and outside the operating room, fostering a comprehensive and coordinated approach to patient care.
Surgeons can see detailed, real-time 3D images of the patient’s anatomy from virtually any angle on touch screen monitors. The technology significantly reduces the risk of damage to delicate spinal structures and helps to preserve healthy tissue.
"Integration of a new microscope will bring an additional level of state-of-the-art interventions allowing surgeons to use dye to enhance the margins of brain tumors, improving the ability to maximize removal of the tumor," said neurosurgeon Waltus Gill III.
Having such technology also helps to attract top physicians to Centra.
“Our goal is to provide best-in-class care for common neurosurgical procedures, and this equipment helps us do it,” said Marne Naas, vice president, Brain and Spine Service Line. “We wish to share our sincerest thanks. The equipment and technology will make a big difference for our patients and physicians during and after surgical procedures.”
