First-time mother Vanessa Botello Castro welcomed a baby girl, Andrea Jasso, at 7:55 a.m., January 1, 2025, making her Lynchburg’s newest citizen of the New Year. Baby Andrea weighed 6 lbs. and 8 oz and was 20 inches long. Mother Vanessa had expected either a New Year's Eve or New Year's Day baby, as she arrived at the Labor and Delivery unit at Virginia Baptist Hospital at 8:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve and gave birth the following morning on New Year's Day.
Vanessa remarked that once she arrived at the labor and delivery unit, her overall experience was quick and smooth once she went into labor. “One push and she was out,” Vanessa explained.
Vanessa chose the name Andrea ahead of time because she knew she was expecting a girl and liked the sound of the name. Vanessa is looking forward to returning to her home and taking care of her new baby. She plans to rest, recover, and relax as much as possible during the quieter winter months.
Local patrons gifted generous donations and gift cards to the parents as the first baby of the New Year. Centra would like to thank all who participated in welcoming Miss Andrea to our community! With her sweet and quiet disposition, head full of hair, and pink lips, Andrea stayed asleep despite all the attention! Welcome to our community, baby girl; we are so glad you are here!
