Enduring Impact through Coaching and More

I joined the Centra Human Resources Team six years ago, and I am currently one of the HR Employee Relations Consultants on the HR Business Partner Team. This being my first assignment in this industry, I was looking forward to learning the dynamics of healthcare. I quickly learned about the caring culture of our organization–our clinical Caregivers are dedicated to our patient population, but I learned how our HR Team works each day to also support the mission and values of Centra.

One would think that HR does not have a direct impact on the Centra mission of “improving the health and quality of life for the communities we serve,” however, in my role as an Employee Relations Consultant I use HR skills daily with this mission in mind. The HRBP Team models and directs managers and Caregivers daily through coaching, guiding behavior, training, mentoring and the Just Culture philosophy. With these tools, we are instrumental in the formation of strong work teams and strong individuals that go out and effect direct patient experience.

We all know that if our patients have an enjoyable experience it is shared in our community. The HRBP experience of developing managers and individuals is foundational to fostering our values of respect and kindness, excellence, stewardship, integrity, teamwork and equity and inclusion. As we assist in encouraging our teams to grow in these values, we know that lasting impact extends in their individual roles and to the community.

One of the HR Daily Affirmations for our HRBP Team states, “Every interaction I have is an opportunity to make a lasting positive impact on someone’s professional life.” As our HRBP Team models this affirmation in our daily work, we have our hand on the pulse of impacting individuals who care about each other and the people that we serve. I am proud to be a member of a team leading the way in this work.
