Our Space
The VLC has over 15,000 square feet of simulated environments for learners including flexible patient care rooms, intensive care unit, labor and delivery suite, apartment, nurses' station and a pre-hospital provider area with a full-size ambulance.
Each room is designed to mimic a clinical environment with the same supplies, technology and equipment throughout the hospital system. Each space can also be used with A/V technology to capture learners on video for feedback and debriefing. Our program uses highly realistic manikins that bleed, cry, breathe, and can be resuscitated as well as Standardized Patients, who are actors who portray patients and/or family members in a simulated scenario.
Faculty Training
In order to use the Virtual Learning Center’s facilities and equipment for simulation education programs, each activity must provide their own Simulation Faculty to facilitate debriefings and operate simulation manikins.
We have customized, interactive, educational programs to develop Simulation Faculty for a variety of healthcare professionals. The VLC staff also partners with clinicians to develop and provide simulation programs to a variety of healthcare professionals.
Simulation faculty training includes the following topics:
Facilitator training – 3 hours
- Introduction to Simulation Technology and Pedagogy
- Debriefing
- Policies and Procedures
- Development and implementation of simulation education programs
- Evaluation techniques
Simulation operations training – 8 hours
- Specific Manikin Operations
- Moulage Tips
