Virginia Baptist Hospital is the regional perinatal center for Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Charlotte, and Prince Edward counties, and the cities of Lynchburg, Danville, Bedford and South Boston. We have three full-time neonatologists who provide care and treatment to high-risk newborns. Our certified nurse midwives and certified neonatal nurse practitioners also provide outreach education to hospitals, patients and communities in our region.
Intensive Care NurseryWhen a baby enters Virginia Baptist Hospital Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), specially skilled physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health professionals will provide comprehensive care. Our Specialty Level Intensive Care Nursery uses the services of board certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners who have advanced education and training in the care of babies with special medical needs.
A perinatal social worker and a parent educator are also part of our team. The neonatal parent educator provides information on premature infant behavior and development and serves as the coordinator for the neonatal follow-up clinic for neuro-development. RTS-Bereavement ServicesRTS-Bereavement Services is a national hospital-based bereavement program that assists families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The program ensures that families receive sensitive care and follow-up counseling after pregnancy and infant loss.
