StaffAkhtar Purvez, M.D. is an expert in interventional and non-interventional pain management. He is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has head and neck surgery experience and speaks and writes about pain management.
PhilosophyCentra Health's Center for Pain Management treats chronic pain through comprehensive techniques, including the use of nerve blocks, medications, implanted pumps and stimulators, physical therapy and consultation with a pain psychologist.
AppointmentsTo allow adequate time with each patient, all visits are by appointment. Our office telephone number is (434) 947-4175. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center for Pain Management is located on the second floor of the Carter Building of Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Appointments are made through physician referrals only. All records from prior treatment and X-rays are needed.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call the center 24 hours in advance to reschedule.
PrescriptionsTo ensure the accuracy of medication and dosage, we refill prescriptions during office hours only. Please call Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
InsuranceThe Center for Pain Management participates in most health insurance plans. Most require pre-certification and approval before seeing a physician at the center.
