Emergency Orthopedic Services
Many of our orthopedic patients come to Lynchburg General Hospital through our regional emergency department. In addition to walk-in and patients brought by ambulance from the greater Lynchburg area, we receive patients from outlying hospitals not equipped to handle orthopedic emergencies.

Orthopedic Services
Orthopedic Services was established at Lynchburg General Hospital to serve the needs of the Lynchburg area.

Our Surgical Unit
Lynchburg General Hospital's orthopedic operating room is available 24 hours a day, year round, to handle a wide range of orthopedic surgeries.

In fact, Lynchburg orthopedic surgeons treat nearly every orthopedic problem right here at Lynchburg General Hospital. We repair broken bones, shoulders and rotator cuffs, correct sports injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome, repair broken hips, and more. High-tech fiber optics are used routinely.

Our Orthopedic Unit
We specifically designed our orthopedic unit with a home-like atmosphere to make patients feel more comfortable during recovery. We offer larger rooms and satellite nursing stations so our nurses have more time to spend with each patient who requires around-the-clock nursing care.

Physical and Occupational Therapies
Our physical therapists work closely with a patient's physicians and nurses to coordinate a personalized treatment program. This program helps the patient reach the highest level of independence. A physical therapist works with the patient on every aspect of mobility, from climbing stairs to exercising and walking with crutches or a walker. Occupational therapists help the patient develop adaptive skills including basic everyday tasks, from bathing and dressing to routine homemaking.

Home Health Program
This short-term program offers consistent quality care while reducing the need for an extended stay. Daily home visits monitors patient progress, and regular reports are given to the physician. Physical therapists and other professionals also may visit the patient's home.

Our professional social workers help patients and their families with the emotional, social, psychological and economic effects of your illness or injury. They help make the transition from the hospital easier, from finding specialty equipment to use when patients go home to offering information on home health services or an extended care facility.
