Big Island provides comprehensive medical care for the entire family, including diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and infections, treatment of accidental injuries, sports injuries, and complete gynecological care for women.

Patient Population: Infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (but closed noon to 1 p.m.). Closed on Wednesday. Phone (434) 299-5951.

Insurance plan participation: Medicare, Medicaid, Medallion, Trigon, Piedmont Community Health Plan, Aetna, Wausau and other commercial insurance plans.

Bedford to Big Island Medical Center

Take Virginia Primary Route 122 North to U.S. 501 South
Turn right onto U.S. 501 South and proceed a short distance to Big Island Medical Center
Look for the Big Island Medical Center sign on the left at the front of the Big Island Emergency Crew Inc. building
Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center

Thaxton to Big Island Medical Center

Take U.S. Route 460 East to the Bedford bypass and the exit to U.S. Primary Route 122 North
Take Virginia Primary Route 122 North to U.S. 501 South
Turn right onto U.S. 501 South and proceed a short distance to Big Island Medical Center
Look for the Big Island Medical Center sign on the left at the front of the Big Island Emergency Crew Inc. building
Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center

Take U.S. Route 29 South to the intersection with Virginia Primary Route 130
Turn right onto Virginia Primary Route 130 and proceed to U.S. Route 501 South, which is past the Blue Ridge Parkway
At U.S. Route 501 South, turn left and proceed to the Big Island Emergency Crew Inc. building. You will cross under the Blue Ridge Parkway
You will pass the intersection of Virginia Primary Route 122 on the right shortly before arriving at the Big Island Emergency Crew building
Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center

Madison Heights to Big Island Medical Center

Take U.S. Route 29 North to the intersection with Virginia Primary Route 130
Turn left onto Virginia Primary Route 130 and proceed to U.S. Route 501 South, which is past the Blue Ridge Parkway
At U.S. Route 501 South, turn left and proceed to the Big Island Emergency Crew Inc. building. You will cross under the Blue Ridge Parkway
You will pass the intersection of Virginia Primary Route 122 on the right shortly before arriving at the Big Island Emergency Crew building
Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center

Appomattox and Concord to Big Island Medical Center

Take U.S. Route 460 West to Lynchburg to the intersection of U.S. Route 501 North Business
Turn right on U.S. Route 501 North Business, which will join and become U.S. Route 501 North to Big Island
Proceed through the town of Big Island to the Big Island Emergency Crew Inc. building on the right
Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center

Rustburg to Big Island Medical Center

Take U.S. Route 501 North Lynchburg, where it will join U.S. Route 501 North Business
U.S. Route 501 North Business will join and become U.S. Route 501 North to Big Island

Proceed around the Emergency Crew building on the left to the back parking lot for Big Island Medical Center
